Description & History
This property is part of the largest intact block of forest on Chebeague, adding to already-conserved lands in the island center. The forest is dominated by white pines with lesser amounts of red maple, hemlock, red oak, and red pine, among other species. Wetlands feed a vernal pool in Littlefield Woods and serve as an important recharge area for the aquifer. This area serves as a stopover point for migratory birds, including keystone species such as American Woodcock, Wood Thrush, Ovenbird, and Blackburnian Warbler. The historic cart paths that previously existed on the property will allow for an expansion of the trail system that traverses Littlefield Woods.
