August 14, 2024 | 5:00pm - 6:00pm
Location: Come to the Chebeague Island Hall Community Center to attend this talk. The speaker will be live via Zoom.
In a world where lawns have wreaked havoc on our natural ecosystems, meadows offer a compelling solution. Meadows establish wildlife habitats, are low-maintenance, have a built-in resilience that helps them weather climate extremes, and draw down and store far more carbon dioxide than any treated lawn. If you’re thinking you might want to start your own meadow, join Owen Wormser, a regenerative landscaper and author of the book Lawns Into Meadows, as he explains how to get started.
About the presenter: Owen Wormser was born and raised off the grid in rural Maine. He earned a degree in landscape architecture and quickly learned to use regenerative, low-maintenance practices in designing and building landscapes. Based in western Massachusetts, his company, Abound Design, provides design, consulting, and installation services. He is the author of Lawns Into Meadows, a book on growing your own meadow that is now in its second edition.
About the series: Weathering Climate Change: Understanding Shifts in Our Local Landscapes is an educational series of walks and talks aimed at informing, engaging, and uniting community members of Cumberland and Chebeague Island around local climate issues that impact us all. The series is offered in collaboration with Prince Memorial Library, the Cumberland Lands and Conservation Commission’s Sustainability Subcommittee, and the Chebeague Climate Action Team. The Chebeague Island Library is a partner in this Aug. 14 event.
